چکیده
Objectives: Objective of this study is to evaluate the association body mass index with hemoglobin Level, erythrocyte Indices and red cell distribution width in medical students Baqai Medical University Karachi. Study Design: Descriptive cross - sectional study. Setting: Physiology Department Period: 15 February 2017 August 2017. Material & Methods: A total 500 were enrolled The anthropometric measurement [height (m2) weight (kg)] was recorded for calculation Body Mass Index Complete blood count i-e Hemoglobin%, indices {Mean corpuscular volume(MCV), Mean hemoglobin(MCH), concentration (MCHC), Red (RDW) done Mentzer’s calculated. Statistical Package Social Sciences (SPSS) version 22.0 used analyze collected data. Results: It observed that 36% having low % level, while values (MCH: 38.0%, MCV 36.6% MCHC 39.0% respectively) 93.8% participants had a higher RDW participants. Iron deficiency anemia (87.2%) thalassemia (carrier or minor: 12.8%) determined by using Menterzer Index. 23.04±3.68 it only significantly associated obese (X²=9.878, p=0.02). Conclusion: With regard our results, percentage between obesity.

Association of Body mass index and serum ferritin level in pediatrics with Beta-thalassemia major disease
Background: Beta-thalassemia major is a type of inherited blood disease that results in variable outcomes such as severe anemia due to haemoglobin chains. Recurrent and lifelong blood transfusions as a treatment in beta-thalassemia major disease lead to iron deposition in various organs and cause the failure of multiple organs. Failure of affected organs leads to Body mass index (BMI) abnormali...
متن کاملAssociation between Red Cell Distribution Width and Mortality in Pediatric Patients Admitted to Intensive Care Units
Background: Red cell distribution width (RDW) is a routine laboratory measure that could be used as a predictor of mortality in critically ill patients. Identification of patients at risk for mortality early in the course of PICU admission is an important step in improving the outcome. We aimed to assess the use of RDW as an early biomarker for outcome in pediatric critical illnesses. Methods:...
متن کاملAssociation between Red Cell Distribution Width and Hypertension in Tabari Cohort Population: A Case-control Study
Background and purpose: Red Cell Distribution Width (RDW) is a parameter that measures changes in red blood cell size reported in a complete blood count test. In this study, we aimed to identify the association between RDW and hypertension in Tabari cohort population. Materials and methods: In this case-control study, case group included all patients with hypertension (n= 2281) participating ...
متن کاملPrognostic Validity of Red Cell Distribution Width in Neonatal Sepsis
Background Neonatal sepsis is one of the most critical illness in neonates that is responsible for a great proportion of morbidity and mortality in neonates so early diagnosis and identification of high risk cases is a challenging aim of our study. The purpose of this study was to investigate the prognostic value of red cell distribution width (RDW), in neonatal sepsis at the time of admission ...
متن کاملAssociation of vomiting in pregnancy with body mass index and quality of life
Introduction: It is believed that between 50% to 80% of pregnant women, suffer from nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. Nausea and vomiting of pregnancy decrease the ability of functioning, where the degree of this limitation is associated with severity of the symptoms. The aim is to assess the effect of body mass index (BMI) on the tendency of pregnant women to vomit and the effect of ...
